Top 5 Sitcoms of the Last Two Decades

In the past twenty years or so there were a lot of great sitcoms. We laughed, cried and enjoyed them in our own way, but there are five that are just a little bit more special. Read this article to find out.

Let me start off by explaining that this list is based on personal opinion, general perception and appeal of the shows listed below.
It’s not about the views or the number of seasons or even the success of actors that were involved; it’s about bringing back nostalgia and being able to watch old episodes over and over again without getting bored.

5. The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory

This show is, I guess, controversial in a way. Some would say it is not funny at all, and some love it. Why is it then on this list? Well, for one simple reason – it did something different; it made geeks cool. There are a lot of Star Trek and Star Wars references as well as The Lord Of The Rings and such. There are many science and physics elements to the show, but it is actually a story of a bunch of people that are completely different in relation to different issues. The situations they go through are hilarious even if you don’t understand all those references. As it is a show that is different and special, it is a must watch. At this moment, we know that the show will have ten seasons, eight of which were aired. Season eight was the most watched, with about 19 million viewers, and the thing is the number of viewers increases every season, starting at just about 8 million for the first season.

4. Two and a Half Men

Two and a Half Men

If you missed this one, you must have been living under a rock. This show is an easy show to watch, but it’s not for kids because there are just way too many sex jokes, drunk people, drug usage and other more adult content. Not to say it goes too far, but it’s not for pre-teen audiences. The characters are unforgettable, and each is specific. Here I will only talk about the part of the show with Charlie Sheen, because after his departure from the series the quality dropped dramatically, and old jokes were recycled way to much to the extent where it became unbearable to watch. It is a story first and foremost about two brothers, one of which is broke and basically homeless and the other is a rich, more drunk than not, guy who lives of selling royalties for kids songs that he composes.

There is a number of other characters, but Charlie and Alan’s relationship is the main focus of the show. For me, it’s an easy show to watch with no deep story. Sometimes the jokes can get a bit dumb, but it’s all for good fun, so this is also a must.

3. That 70’s Show

That 70’s Show

I grew up with this show, and simply love it to this day. I mean, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis had their first kiss on the set of That 70’s Show and now have a kid. How often does that happen? Let us get back on track here. Why is this show on the list? Well, it’s just so freakin’ funny! It’s a story about the life of teenagers in the 70’s in the United States. They spend most of their time in the basement of Eric’s house, who has a very serious military background father, and they smoke pot. There is love involved between the characters and a couple of nice love stories, a funny foreign exchange student, who always puts a smile on my face, no matter what he says, his accent is just hilarious. The chemistry of the group is fantastic, one of the best of any show. Do not miss out! It ran for eight seasons although the last season did not feature all the characters, but I won’t spoil anything. Just trust me and watch it, you will not be disappointed.

2. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Want to know how Will Smith looked like as a teenager? Well, pretty much the same, just a bit skinnier and as funny as ever. The Fresh Prince is a story of a “problematic” Will, played by Smith, and his moving to his Aunt and Uncle’s house in Bel-Air where he must go to private school with his little, and I mean little not in the age sense, cousin Carlton who is a complete opposite of him. The relationship between Will and his uncle is the best part of the show for me, the chemistry is amazing and they are really relatable characters. It had six seasons, so it is a fast watch, don’t miss it.

1. Friends

What is there to say about Friends? For me, this will always be the best sitcom of all time. It was copied by many but not coming even close. It follows the lives of five very distinct characters, and the problem is I can never pick my favorite, they are just that good and special. The humor is simple yet not dumb. It’s about real life, about being friends, about good values and about love. There is nothing bad to say about this show except that it ended, and that is the worst thing you can say about any show. If you have not seen it, then you should open Google and find it. It’s beautiful and funny. Ten seasons of enjoyment await you.

So, that’s it. If you have some free time in your day, spend it by watching some of these epic sitcoms. Did I miss anything? Comment below, and have a great day!
